Week 9 - Frame Progress

Week 9 has seen our frame work still progressing and minor errors being fixed.

We were contacted by our Client Liaison Officer last week to inform us that there was a conflict on our plans for windows.  Our main ensuite window was notated as being an 'awning' window in the topographical plan, but fixed on the side view plan.  We needed to clarify that our preference is a fixed window.

Due to the discrepancy on the plans, the window company hadn't made any of our aluminium windows and there is now a two week delay on window delivery.  The windows are expected to arrive on Wednesday 25th March and be installed by the end of the week.

In the mean time, here are some of the frame updates for the week:

Week 8 - A house with a view

Today has been a busy day with the framing crew hard at work.  They have now put up the roof trusses, balcony and garage.  The most exciting part was that we were finally able to see the view from upstairs.  Amazing!!!!!  Here are some pics:

Garage:
We have an extra 2 metres on the garage for extra storage.

View from the Master Balcony:
There will be a sliding door leading to the balcony.

Master Bedroom View:
This is the side window in the master bedroom.

View from the Master Ensuite:
This window will be above the bath.

The timber windows were also delivered today, hopefully they will be installed before the weekend.  We chose to only have timber window frames to the front of the house.  The rest of the house will have aluminium frames.  We decided that whilst it might look nice to have timber windows throughout the entire house, the maintenance would be too much.

Week 7 - Thursday Night

After a day of hard work from the framers, the first floor frame is up and the house is finally starting to take shape!  The roof trusses were also delivered to the site today.

Our S.S. gave us a call today, he informed us that the temporary stairs are coming tomorrow and the cranes should be on site to get the roof trusses put up as well.  He explained that we are running a few days behind due to the difficulty in finding machinery that can go up our steep driveway.

Another busy week ahead with estimated frame completion by mid next week.

Curtains & Blinds

As I mentioned in the previous post we will be getting quotes for curtains and blinds next week.  So, I decided to post some pictures of what we think we would like.

Open Plan Living/Dinning area
We like the idea of having the block out plus the privacy blind.  The privacy screen will also help with sun glare, and help keep the area cool but still light.  We would like to get them with some sort of basic pelmet, and will also look into get them motorised.

Master Bedroom and Minor Bedrooms
We plan on getting white block out blinds with sheer curtains over the top in each of the bedrooms.  The master bedroom will have white sheer curtains, and possibly a pelmet (as per the first picture) and motorisation.  We like the idea of being able to open the blinds with a remote from bed!
The girls will have pink or lavender sheers and the little guy will have navy blue or grey sheers over the white block out blind.  No pelmet or motorisation for the kids though!

We will also go with the same block out/sheer combination for the library.  We are undecided on what the toy room and upstairs rumpus room will have.

The bathrooms have frosted glass so we are going to see how it goes without a blind.  The master ensuite will need a blind as the window is quite big with clear glass.  We will need to see our options before making a decision on that one though.

Week 7 - Thursday

This morning I went past the 'house', no longer 'the block'!

I was very excited to see that the second level is well and truly underway.  Its amazing what they can do in such a short time frame.  These photos were taken at about 11am this morning and the last photos I took where at about 7pm last night.

The large front window (upper level) is the master bedroom.  There will be large sliding doors leading to a balcony (yet to be built).  The the lower window is the formal lounge room or 'library' as we are planning on calling it.

The garage is yet to be built.  It will probably balance the house out when it's done.  We added an extra two metres to the standard two car garage- so its not quite a three car garage.  The idea is that we want to add shelving to each side of the garage and still have plenty of space for two SUVs without the car doors bumping into things when they open.  The double garage door will be placed in the centre of the garage so that everything looks symmetrical.  There will also be a single roller door at the back of the garage so that we can drive a car, or whatever needs to be driven through to the backyard.

Next week we will be taking the plans to some curtains/blinds companies to get some quotes.  We want to at least have the bedrooms fitted out with blinds before we move in.

We'll try and go past again tonight or tomorrow to get some close up pictures.

Week 7 - Wednesday

We went past the block on Wednesday and whilst there hadn't been any work done we did notice that the prefabricated walls for the second story had been delivered.

The scaffolding had also been put up in preparation for the construction.  I went past again later that night to find that all of the prefab walls had been put 'upstairs'.

We can't wait until the second level is on- it will give us more of an accurate idea of the house and we will also finally get to have a look and the views we will have!
